Reviews & Product News

“If you are not racing, but still want to ride a fast bike, with more comfort and an easier fit, the new Giant Defy is arguably the best in class”

David Arthur recently tested the all-new Defy Advanced Pro for his Just Ride Bikes YouTube channel. He discusses his experience with the endurance road bike, praising the Defy for it’s reliability, speed and comfort.

Arthur begins by boasting the Defy's value for money. He compares the tested model (Defy Advanced Pro 0) to Trek’s Domane SL 7 which is valued at the same price with a similar spec. However, Arthur tips the Defy as better value for money with features such as a dual sided power meter and carbon handlebar which, give or take could cost an extra £1,000.

So, did the Defy deliver?

Arthur rode the Defy Advanced Pro for 4 months, describing the endurance model as a 'Goldilocks road bike'.

“It’s neither too stiff, racy and aggressive; nor too upright and lazy/slow. It’s plenty fast enough for me to go flat out fast.”

Complimenting the Defy, Arthur elaborates by claiming it feels like a race bike, it performs so well.

Arthur discusses the geometry, praising the relaxed fit that are perfect for long rides. He suggests the Defy is a better bike than a race bike, unless you are actually racing.

“If you are not racing, but still want to ride a fast bike, with more comfort and an easier fit, the new Giant Defy is arguably the best in class.”

The option to fit mudguards and wider tyres (up to 38mm) make it a perfect 4 season bike, suitable for all weather. Arthur claims the carbon road bike will appeal to a lot of people.

After 4 months of riding, Arthur discusses the pros of the Defy.

“I like the fit, geometry, the weight and how the bike rides. I like the specification on this bike, the groupset, powermeter, and it’s always nice to get carbon fibre wheels on a new bike.”

The Defy’s wheels are hookless, tubeless with a carbon set up. After his time riding, Arthur never had any issues with the wheels and tyres.

“I had loads of comfort, and after hitting potholes, cracks and cattle grids pretty hard, I had no issues.”

Giving his final verdict, Arthur summarises the Defy with the following statement.

“I love it, it’s a fantastic bike. This bike delivers all the speed I need for the riding I do nowadays, and still indulges all the need for speed that I still want when I ride a slick tide drop bar road bike like this.”
